WELCOME BACK! VIDEO
Mr. Steve Chartier, Galewood Early Elementary Principal, is excited for what's in store for the new school year! Welcome back students, staff and families!
The energy on the first day is always very, very high. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. We’re really wanting to make sure that we have solid, individualized instruction. We want to make sure we're meeting all of these needs socially, emotionally, behaviorally and academically. It’s extremely fun to begin the school year.

As a proud member of Charlotte Public Schools, Galewood Early Elementary boasts a diverse student population within developmental kindergarten (DK) and kindergarten, as well as early childhood special education (ECSE). We deliver a program that focuses upon the whole child (i.e. socially, emotionally, physically, academically) as well as their unique interests and needs. Rooted in evidence-based, developmentally appropriate instructional practices, we strive to promote engaged learners, high expectations for all, cooperation, and wellness and safety. Further, we nurture the gifts and talents of all of our students leading them to become well rounded individuals. In addition to physical education, fitness, music and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics), our students have ample opportunity to participate in activities that enrich the general curriculum including Literacy and Math Night, Book Fairs, Student Performances, iPad Initiatives, Visiting and Off-Campus Field Trips, as well as School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports.
Galewood parents are a dedicated group of individuals who are truly committed to the success of their children. As partners in the academic process, they play a crucial role in the overall vitality of our school. Through an array of workshops held in conjunction with community-based agencies, parents are provided with opportunities to further their own livelihood all the while enriching the lives of their children.
We have a strong sense of pride at Galewood Early Elementary School. We are pleased to be re-establishing ourselves within the community and look forward to becoming the premier destination for early childhood instruction within Eaton County.
The early elementary years are a critical component in education. At Galewood, our goal is to provide a solid foundation on which our youngsters will construct understanding for a lifetime—hence our brand promise: “Our Roots Start Here.”
